Our Story – Why Baby Slings NZ

Baby Slings New Zealand
Wearing my babies came about from an instinctive desire to meet my little people’s needs for attachment, warmth, aroha and nurture… and my own needs for connection, simplicity and ease.

My little people were at my side while I got on with life…  adventures in nature, preparing food, hanging out washing, milking the cow, digging spuds and sweeping the floor.   I used a variety of carriers when my people were small and I came to value the simplicity and versatility of the pouch sling…

BabySlings.co.nz had its beginnings when I made my first sling to carry my third born…
I then made a sling for my partner…
I then gifted some slings to friends…
I then received money to make slings for friend’s of friends…

I hold on to precious memories of holding my own little people close…  and I am inspired to support māmās and pāpās to experience the gifts that come from doing so.

I am a maker of baby slings, a teller of the stories of our land, a receiver of cuddles and snangling, a recycler, an op-shopper, a reader of books out loud, a grower of food, an adventurer, a rider of bicycles,…
I value items made by hand, locally, from natural resources.
I appreciate items that are both beautiful and functional.
I treasure things of yesterday and the stories they bring to their new up-cycled selves.
I value keeping things simple and not spending more money than is necessary.
I am interested in things that support healthy bodies, healthy hearts and healthy minds, healthy relationships,… and a healthy planet.

I am daughter, sister, friend, teacher, learner, lover and mother to three almost-always-lovely-not-so-little-anymore people. I am grandmother to those to come.
I am a believer in listening to our small folk, listening to the wisdom of the wise ones who’ve gone before us, and listening to our own inner knowings.

Let our loving hearts guide us.  Let us listen to our intuition.  Let us keep our little people close to us.
